“One of the off moments of the lab crew. The fellow with the monkey on his chest is Johnson, the other is Tom Kearns. Both are home now.”
Curator’s note: I found this photo in the Truman Library while researching the 4026th Photo Battalion. The caption says: “A monkey named ‘Lady’ who was the mascot of the 4026th Army Signal Photographic Battalion, sits in a jeep, somewhere in the Philippines. Donor: John Paxton, ca. 1945.”
Could this be the identity of Pfc Johnson’s little friend in the lower left corner?

The Pacific War Photos of Pfc Glenn Eve is an archive collected by my father while assigned to the 4026th Army Signal Photo Battalion. Although he shot many of the images herein, the iconic ones were likely developed by him while working in the Mobile Photo Lab. I credit the original photographer where possible. You can read Pfc Eve’s whole story here.
